Fraser Residence Blackfriars is strategically located in the centre of the City of London often referred
to as `the Wall Street of the UK` or the `Square Mile`. The City of London is
today a major business and financial centre on par with New York City as the
leading centre of global finance. Many of the world`s leading Fortune 500 companies
indeed have their offices in this compact business district which almost exactly
spans one square mile (2.6 km²).
The residence and surrounding area obtained their name from an order of Dominican
monks who inhabited a monastery adjacent to the site where Fraser Residence
Blackfriars is situated. The monks were known as the Black Friars because of
their distinctive black robes. Later on, the monastery was turned into the renowned
`Playhouse` theatre, which could seat up to 700 people and which was once the
winter home of Shakespeare`s acting troupe, the King`s Men.
Major local tourist attractions such as St Paul`s Cathedral, which recently held the thanksgiving services for both the Golden Jubilee and 80th Birthday of Her Majesty the Queen, The Millennium Bridge, the Tate Modern and the local shopping and entertainment belt have attracted an international audience made up by businessmen and tourists alike.
